Show your app in action within the first 3 seconds — that’s what hooks viewers in search results.
Don’t include prices — they vary by region and will make your video look wrong in other markets.
Avoid borders or device frames — Apple adds them automatically in the store listing.
Videos auto-play in search results on WiFi — make the opening visually compelling even without sound.
Video resolutions are NOT the same as screenshot sizes — Apple uses standardized lower resolutions for previews.
App preview video dimensions differ from screenshot sizes. Apple uses standardized lower resolutions for preview videos across all device classes. The most common dimensions you need are 886x1920 (portrait) for modern iPhones and 1200x1600 (portrait) for iPads.
Getting the wrong video size will cause your preview to be rejected during App Store review. Always record or export at exactly the target resolution — scaling from a different resolution introduces artifacts and blurriness.
iPhone previews use 886x1920 pixels for all models from iPhone SE to iPhone 17 Pro Max (with the exception of the 5.5-inch and 4.7-inch legacy sizes). iPad previews are 1200x1600 for 10.5-inch and larger, and 900x1200 for the 9.7-inch class. Mac and Apple TV use standard 1920x1080 landscape, while Apple Vision Pro requires 3840x2160.
A common mistake is assuming preview video resolutions match screenshot resolutions. They do not. For example, iPhone 16 Pro Max screenshots are 1320x2868 pixels, but preview videos for the same device are only 886x1920. Always use this reference guide rather than guessing based on your screenshot dimensions.
